A non-zero-sum no-information best-choice game

چکیده
A given number of n applicants are to be interviewed for a position of secretary. They present themselves one-by-one in random order, all n! permutations being equally likely. Two players I and II jointly interview the i-th applicant and observe that his (or her) relative rank is y for I and z for II, relative to i − 1 applicants that have already seen (rank 1 is for the best). Each player chooses one of the two choices Accept or Reject. If choice-pair is R-R, then the i-th is rejected, and the players face the next i+1-th applicant. If A-A is chosen, then the game ends with payoff to I (II), the expected absolute rank under the condition that the i-th has the relative rank y (z). If players choose different choices, then arbitration comes in, and forces players to take the same choices as I’s (II’s) with probability p (p̄ = 1 − p). Arbitration is fair if p = 1/2. If all applicants except the last have been rejected, then A-A should be chosen for the last. Each player aims to minimize the expected payoff he can get. Explicit solution is derived to this n stage game, and numerical results are given for some n and p. The possibility of an interactive approach in this selection problem is analyzed.

Multiple attribute decision making with triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers based on zero-sum game approach
For many decision problems with uncertainty, triangular intuitionistic fuzzy number is a useful tool in expressing ill-known quantities. This paper develops a novel decision method based on zero-sum game for multiple attribute decision making problems where the attribute values take the form of triangular intuitionistic fuzzy numbers and the attribute weights are unknown. First, a new value ind...
متن کاملA TRANSITION FROM TWO-PERSON ZERO-SUM GAMES TO COOPERATIVE GAMES WITH FUZZY PAYOFFS
In this paper, we deal with games with fuzzy payoffs. We proved that players who are playing a zero-sum game with fuzzy payoffs against Nature are able to increase their joint payoff, and hence their individual payoffs by cooperating. It is shown that, a cooperative game with the fuzzy characteristic function can be constructed via the optimal game values of the zero-sum games with fuzzy payoff...
متن کاملGame version of the Bruss’ problem
In the sequential decision making task known as the best choice problem, n items are presented in a random order one at a time. After each item, the decision maker can determine only their relative ranks. The goal of decision maker is to select the best of all n items without the possibility of recalling previously observed items. Many important business decisions such as choosing a venture par...
متن کاملLeaf-Value Tables for Pruning Non-Zero-Sum Games
Algorithms for pruning game trees generally rely on a game being zero-sum, in the case of alpha-beta pruning, or constant-sum, in the case of multi-player pruning algorithms such as speculative pruning. While existing algorithms can prune non-zero-sum games, pruning is much less effective than in constant-sum games. We introduce the idea of leaf-value tables, which store an enumeration of the p...
متن کاملDistribution Design of Two Rival Decenteralized Supply Chains: a Two-person Nonzero Sum Game Theory Approach
We consider competition between two decentralized supply chains network under demand uncertainty. Each chain consists of one risk-averse manufacturer and a group of risk-averse retailers. These two chains present substitutable products to the geographical dispensed markets. The markets’ demands are contingent upon prices, service levels, and advertising efforts of two supply chains. We formulat...
متن کاملA Geometrical Perspective for the Bargaining Problem
A new treatment to determine the Pareto-optimal outcome for a non-zero-sum game is presented. An equilibrium point for any game is defined here as a set of strategy choices for the players, such that no change in the choice of any single player will increase the overall payoff of all the players. Determining equilibrium for multi-player games is a complex problem. An intuitive conceptual tool f...
